The legend of the picture and the shepherd
According to popular tradition, it happened that a shepherd, returning from the pastures, found in the bushes a picture depicting the Annunciation of Mary. He brought it home nut, after a few days, he found it again in the same place and then delivered it to the rector of the Parish of Pigna. Surprisingly the small painting returned for the third time to the place of the first discovery. Then it was decided to consecrate that place, called Passoscio, with the construction of a chapel which, in the 17th century, was replaced by the current sanctuary. The position is highly strategic for controlling the routes of pilgrims and wayfarers, being along the road between Roja and Nervia valleys.
